Racist Girl Vol. 11: Awkward Moments

RG smokes a lot. Everyone knows this and she makes no attempt to hide it. Therefore it is never difficult to find RG whenever she's missing from her desk. She's either in the loo or in the smoking corner. Usually its the smoking corner.

Maybe that's why she didn't believe RD when he insisted that he 'accidentally' stumbled upon her systematically converting tobacco into ash. That being said, RG had spent the last 10 minutes sneaking glances at the door to see if anyone was to walk by.

The resulting conversation to say the least was awkward, even by RD's rather high standards.

RG: Why are you here? (the tone isn't too angry at the moment, but it holds a tinge of impatience)

RD: I felt like taking a walk and didn't realise you'd be here. (He starts confidently, then falters at "didn't realise" and comes back strongly at the end)

Both stare at each other waiting for the other to blink. RD blinks first as usual. He feels like peeing and squirms slightly.

RG: So... Have you satisfied your need for a walk? (sarcasm? maybe, most probably)

RD: In a bit.
(he seems to change, the awkwardness is no longer so prominent, but he seems just as vulnerable)

RG: So I guess I should head back. (she sense the change and feels nervous, she's not used to this, so her tone is brusque and defensive)

RD: (he carries on without even noticing) I think I want to talk to you. This is something we need to talk about.

RG: (her panic becomes more noticeable) I gotta run, but definitely tomorrow.

RD: Please. (just one word embodies a plea worthy of a 1000)

RG pauses, her hand on the door knob, but the grip slowly loosens.

RD walks up and stands behind her a hand reaching out to her shoulder. He almost reaches her, but something changes and RG turns the knob and is outside before he can stop her.

He rushes out to follow, but all he sees is her fast retreating back as she sprints towards the office, her heels not slowing her down at all.

RD stands distraught at the doorway. His face remains impassive, but his eyes belay the pain and confusion he truly feels. What he doesn't see and will never see as long as can help it, is RG's reddened eyes and thin tear streaks down her face. She's trying to control it, but it comes down like the rain. She changes direction and sprints to the elevator. The first floor beckons.

RD doesn't see this as he slumps down to the ground while leaning against the doorway. His head in his hands and his own tears making it difficult to see.

He doesn't notice the 'ding' of the elevator doors opening on this floor. He doesn't notice the klack of RG's heels as she jumps in. He doesn't notice.
